RE: Clay mining operation
Visionaries,
The letter below addresses valid concerns. Phil Nesbit, the lead geologist
for Alchemy Ventures, will present to the public Alchemy's plans for
developing their clay mines (leased from State land) and related value added
industries in Latah County and the region tonight (Tuesday, May 1) 7:00 pm
at the Bovill School. We will hold a question and answer session after Mr.
Nesbit's presentation. Please come prepared with any questions you can
think of.
Topics of concern include, but are not limited to: a) environmental
degradation and/or restoration/reclamation; b) water quality; c) effects on
aquifers; c) transportation of clay by truck, rail lines, and barges from
Lewiston; d) impacts on infrastructure including: roads, schools, public
buildings, water systems, sewers, parks, emergency medical and fire
services, law enforcement, railroads, and so forth; e)job training; f)
partnerships with the universities; g) value added industries, h) what
industries/how to attract them or start them up/where to locate in Latah
County and the region; i) housing; and j) if JR Simplot could not make a
profit from clay mining, what makes Alchemy think they can. Please bring
any questions you may have to tonight's session. It is important to have as
much public input as possible.
If you cannot make tonight's meeting, Latah County Rural Development
Services (RDS) will hold another meeting in Deary on Tuesday May 8, 7:00pm,
at the Deary High School. If necessary RDS will hold other meetings
throughout the rural communities.
Thanks,
Chris
