RE: Nader votes
Dear Friends,
I guess I have to comment on all the comments about Nader and Gore! I hope I
can give a slightly different perspective. I voted for Nader... I did so
even though I knew he had no chance to win but wanted the green party to get
funding (diversity) next round so I did it. This in itself is not an amazing
thing many people did this all over the country. But first a little
backgrounder!!
I am considered to be a liberal by Republican and conservative by Democrats.
I have been, for a long time, opposed to the party system (as well as the
Electoral College). I find partisan politics an insult... I have never fit
into a mold even in my native country. Most of the people I know in this
country are not "Democrat" or "Republican"... they are not without opinions
of their own. We do not need the party bosses to tell us what to do... it is
supposed to be the other way around... we tell the government what to do. It
was supposed to be the government for the people and by the people right?!
So... I looked at my options... I wanted an ideal president but she was not
on the ballot so I decided that I wanted Gore since I did not believe that
Bush would even stand a chance in hell if it were not for his name. I think
he is a great guy... I would hang with him, party with him, but I do not
believe he is qualified or capable of running a country... especially this
one!
Then I considered what would happen if I voted for Gore. The answer to that
is, as we all know, nothing! Since we are in this archaic and backwards
system of Electoral College a vote for Gore in Idaho is a vote thrown away
so I voted for Nader so he could get his 5%.
I am very disappointed that people voted for Nader in a state like Florida.
I know this might make some of you Nader die-hards mad but it was
irresponsible to vote for Nader in a swing state. Those who voted for Nader
in Washington, fortunately, did not effect the election of Gore but they
came close... this to me was irresponsible.
Democrats, on the other hand, screwed up! There should have been no votes
for Gore in this state... it was meaningless! We all know it! There is no
way in hell you will have Idaho go to a Democrat... I am sorry but it is
true. So why not do the next best thing?!
With freedome comes responsibility. We need more diversity... we need to
achieve unity within that diversity. We are all individuals; we all have our
own needs, wants, ambitions, as well as dislikes. We have differing opinions
and methodology. This is diversity... we are all, however, lovers of this
country and the supporters of liberty and justice for all. This is unity.
In conclusion, I do not blame Nader... I blame the voters! We need to be
much more critical in our opinion formation. We need to act more
responsibly. We need to take into account that several supreme court
justices will be appointed during this administration. We need to work
together in a cooperative spirit. We are not enemies here... we are friends.
Your brother in arms,
Shahab...

I was just waiting for this.
OK, How does a presidential candidate lose in his own state? Even Mondale
(1-49 state loser) won in Minnesota. Gore may become president yet, but if
he didn't carry Tennessee, he doesn't deserve it.
Blame Nader. What a joke.
