Minimum Wage for Farmer Workers

Visionaries:

I attended the Legislative Interim Committee studying the question of
Minimum Wage for Idaho
Farm Workers.  This should not even be an issue we should be studying--it
should be law in terms
of social and economic justice on the books.

The final committee meeting was a failure.   No progress was made.  Reps.
Robison, Bieter, and
I plan to reintroduce our minimum wage bill which calls for inclusion of
farm workers under
the Idaho Minimum Wage Act.   It may be that an initiative on the ballot
will be the only way to
win this battle.

The Idaho Image Campaign has come out with a new slogan

IDAHO:  THE HUMAN RIGHTS STATE

It should read

IDAHO:  THE HUMAN RIGHTS STATE--EXCEPT FOR IDAHO FARM WORKERS
               (one could include Hispanic Farm Workers in here because
about 85% are Hispanic)

The failure to include farm workers under the minimum wage law is a cancer
on the soul
of human rights in Idaho.
