City Council: public hearing Monday
Visionaries:
Some of you may be interested in a request for rezoning that is the
subject of a public hearing before the Moscow City Council on Monday,
Sept. 18, at 7:30 p.m.
The owner of the mini-warehouses behind Bestway Carpets at 605 West
Third has applied for a rezoning from multi-family residential to motor
business. The land involved is adjacent to the current storage units on
land to be leased from the two railroads, and the owner has stated his
intent to construct aditional storage units there.
The Moscow Planning & Zoning Commission voted 5-2 on July 26 to deny the
rezone request. The owner has appealed that decision to the City
Council. The appeal is the subject of the public hearing.
I am concerned about the construction of additional storage units in the
railroad right of way, so close to Ghormely Park and one of the
entrances to the University of Idaho. I believe that granting the
rezone request would be inconsistent with the Moscow comprehensive plan.
I would be glad to provide background information to anyone interested
in this request. Please call me at home, 883-8321. I invite you to
drive by the property this weekend to see whether you think additional
storage units are an appropriate use for this area. (There's a small
green sign near Third Street with the details of the public hearing.)
If you are unable to attend on Monday, you can still submit written
comments. Dale Pernula, the director of community development, suggests
getting them to his office before noon on Monday so he can make copies
for the council. Or if you'd prefer to make your own copies, he
suggested making at least 10.
