pesticide info

Dear Vision 2020 subscribers--

In response to Peggy Adams' posting regarding pesticide-laced compost at the Moscow Community Garden, I thought I would pass on a good website for people interested in pesticides and their effects on soil and plants (both immediate and long-term).  The site has a very informative factsheet on clopyralid (the chemical that, according to Peggy's post, is suspected to be in the WSU compost), but you'll need acrobat reader to view it.

Go to:  www.pesticide.org
When you get to the website, click on Information Services, then on Pesticide Chemical Fact Sheets.

In addition to the pesticide information, the site also contains some great factsheets on alternative pest control methods and natural gardening methods.  I would also reiterate Peggy's warning, "read *very carefully* the label of the chemicals you use prior to application and prior to composting materials which have been treated."
