Eight cubic yards of trash (plates, cups, and food waste) from the food
booths at this year's Moscow Renaissance Fair is now being composted by
Latah Sanitation--saved from the landfill, to be reborn as soil-builder.
The Moscow High School Environmental Club and International Club diligently
gathered and sorted the trash, and Relene Johnson and Latah Sanitation
generously volunteered their expertise and support to make the project work.
So, what about all the other events and festivals in Moscow? Not one makes
a real effort to recycle or compost their food waste. I wish the directors
of those other events, from Rendezvous in the Park to the County Fair, would
show the same commitment to reducing landfill waste.
It can be done. What are you waiting for?
Bill London
