All of the money should be invested.
Each year, part of the interest income should be spent exclusively as
intended. The rest should be plowed back into the account for growth.
Within 20 years, all parks and recreation funding for the city could probably
then be taken off the backs of taxpayers FOREVER. If not in 20 years then it
certainly could at some point.
More importantly, Mr. Hamilton's gift will live and grow FOREVER serving all
who choose to live, work, and play in Moscow. Living gifts inspire
additional gifts. Spent gifts rarely do.
If we spend it now, it is very unlikely that anything more than a
commemorative plaque or two will be around to honor his extraordinary legacy.
