>So You Think A Gallon of Gasoline Is Expensive?
Really interesting "comparisons", but as you well know, the factors of
recovery, shipping, refining and delivery to the pumps are costs that
need to be figured in -- not just the final consumer prices we pay.
Otherwise, we could expect wholesalers/retailers to charge just what they
please plus what the market will bear -- factors which are sometimes
quite elastic, at the consumers' expense. Thanks for the neat ride. On
another note, I'd be willing to pay more for gasoline and oil if the
markups went to environmental needs; as for hiway needs, the Feds. have a
Federal Hiway Fund which has been increased one or twice by every
president beginning with Reagan, the so-called "non-tax" president. But
each Administration slips in special needs taxes every time. Consumers
can't win in that game. Ken M.
