I often fly to Lewiston or Spokane from the Bay
Area, more so during football season than any other
time.  If I fly into Spokane, rarely do I pay more
than $130 for roundtrip ticket thanks to internet
specials routinely posted by Alaska Airlines.

My guess regarding the price difference between
Pullman and Lewiston is because there is only
one carrier (Horizon) that services Pullman.  In
Lewiston, there is competition between Horizon and
other carriers.

Another thing you might look into is booking, for
example, San Jose to Lewiston via Seattle.  A few
months ago, I took that route on a flight that landed
in Lewiston at Midnight, but made a quick stop in
Moscow en route.  You could get off the plane in
Moscow.  On the outgoing leg of Lewiston to San Jose,
you would need to board in Lewiston.

Further, I've also tried to book the direct flight
from S.F. to Spokane on United and sometimes found
it 30% cheaper if I book the San Jose to Spokane via
S.F (San Jose to S.F. is by United Airlines goundlink
bus) and then travel on THE SAME FLIGHT from S.F. to
Spokane.  Usually I just toss the bus tickets in the
garbage in that case since the airline checkin for
that scenario is at S.F.
