Dear Visionaries:
You may know that the majority party of the state legislature is looking
seriously at cutting taxes. The extent of the cuts depends on which faction
of that group prevails. While I'm sure many people would like to have some
tax relief, I think we have reason to be concerned.
I doubt that those considering this action have seriously assessed the needs
in the state. (It is time to go home and run for reelection.) The
legislature just acted to require an exiting test for students to graduate
from high school, and there will be a considerable amount of money required
to make that program successful. The universities need more financial
support, Medicaid, early childhood programs, school facilities, etc., etc.
I believe the amount of relief each individual would receive is minimal
compared to the good we can do if state dollars are used wisely. You may or
may not agree, but I suggest if you have strong feelings, you contact
legislators. You can phone a message (208-332-1000) and request that your
message be given to all legislators, or e-mail (infocntr@lso.state.id.us) and
do the same.
Shirley
