meeting of minds...

My dearest friends,

 

I just got back from the meeting organized by Dr. Medlin on the development of our area. I have to say I am positively on fire... I would like to thank Dr. Medlin for organizing the event and allowing those of us who attended meet and talk about our concerns and ideas. I left the meeting with a sense of closeness to the brothers and sisters who were there. It is truly amazing that many people with many differing backgrounds can get together and realize how similar and unified they can be. we had a chance to get to know each other and honor each other in a very personal way. It was exciting meeting friends face to face who were just e-mail addresses before. This meeting was everything I was asking for when I requested us to get together and discuss issues face to face. I hope that we have more of these meetings and I hope more friends come to these meetings. I know we can achieve great things in our community if we pull together for a common goal.

 

We had members of government, business people, professional people, educators, farmers, men, women, young people, old people... you name it. Some were native to this area and some were from far away. The single thing I left with was that despite all of our huge differences we all basically agreed on the goals we have for our community. In fact even though our backgrounds and belief systems were different we all saw the Truth. The fact of the matter is that we are not that different from one another. We found unity in our diversity... we found a way to focus our energies to achieve a common good. I hope in the future meetings we can develop concrete plans and start acting on them. I hope that we find a way to become involved in our town. I hope we can create the model for success. I hope we can utilize a meeting place for our town... a place we can go and learn about the issues and hear different points of view so we do not take sides arbitrarily but with knowledge and the community in mind.
