Last call for old bikes

Greetings Visionaries

This is your last chance this year to send that old mountain bike to Africa.
Next week, the Village Bicycle Project will be sending truckloads of bikes
from Moscow to Seattle. Once in Seattle they will be loaded into a shipping
container along with bikes collected by our Seattle partners, Bike Works.
400 bikes in all are to be packed a-la-sardine, and delivered across the
Atlantic to Ghana.

We are only looking for wide-tired adult bikes here in the Palouse because
of the transport problems to Seattle. Ten-speed racers should be in great
abundance in Seattle. Kids' bikes are not encouuraged, because of Africa's
shortages of adult bikes. Most kid's bikes I saw in Ghana were being
uncomfortably ridden by adults. Kids bikes may be accepted for U of I's
international-student community. Email gkauffman@sub.uidaho.edu

The project could also use repair manuals and bicycling magazines. Parts
are in need, especially derailleurs and mtn bike wheels. No racing
handlebars, kickstands or racing brake levers please.

We might possibly need more help with trucks to haul bikes to Seattle.

Bring your bikes and stuff to 913 S. Jefferson, Moscow, anytime; you can
leave it on the porch if no one is home. It would be best to have the bikes
by Saturday afternoon Feb. 6. Please, none after Wensday, Feb 9.

For more info call 892-2681 or email peckham@mailcity.com
The people of Ghana thank you, me too.
regards,
DAve Peckham
