The New Millennium. 2000? 2001?
I'm not sure if the millennium started 010100 or will start 010101.
That does not matter. The calendar is arbitrary. It has as much to
do with politics as it has to do with the surety of mathematics.
But! People were willing to accept Y2K as the tick of the millennial clock.
I waited in vain for the Magnificent Gesture. Surely the leader of some
nation would come through with a gesture so grand it would lift spirits to
new heights, give spirit where none was before. Perhaps Yeltsins'
abdication was the gesture I looked for. I know of no others.
Perhaps I missed the point. NEW Millennium. New gesture? New source?
I decided to cut out donuts and cut back televiewing.
Certainly no Magnificent Gesture. But it's working. Could the power of the
millennium has enhanced my resolve? If so I feat I have wasted 010100.
But wait! People will willingly accept Y2K+1 as the tick of the millennial
clock.
No more donuts! This time my gesture will be significant. The power of the
millennium will enhance my resolve. I will not waste 010101.
The NEW Millennium might soar on the wings of millions of significant
gestures. That would be Magnificent!
