Clinton's gun safety proposals

Dear Visionaries,
FYI, from the Children's Defense League
Steve Cooke

LET CONGRESS KNOW YOU SUPPORT CLINTON'S NEW GUN PACKAGE

While speaking in Boston on Tuesday, President Clinton announced a new $280
million package to reduce the amount of crimes committed with guns. The
plan is a combination of common-sense gun safety
--500 new Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms agents and inspectors to
investigate gun crimes and illegal gun sales
--1,000 more federal, state and local prosecutors to focus on gun-related
crimes
--Expansion of an existing gun-tracing through ballistics program from 38 to
51 cities
--Creation of a ballistics information network to track ballistics data of
guns used in crimes
--Funding for development of ''smart guns'' that fire only when held by
their owners

After the tragedy at Columbine High School, it looked as if Congress would
pass stronger gun control measures to protect our children from gun
violence.
ACTION NEEDED: Please call your Representative and Senators and urge them to
support President Clinton's gun package. Members can be reached by calling
the Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121.
