Whitman County Planning Commission

On January 19, the Whitman County Planning Commission met with the Whitman
County Board of Commissioners in a workshop meeting to discuss priorities
and direction for 2000. Three priorities were identified for the first part
of the year:

1. Developing a commercial/light industrial zone along the Airport Road
from the airport to Highway 270. The first task would be to contact
property owners along the road to determine if the zone would be acceptable.

2. Finishing the Transportation Element of the Comprehensive Plan and
related sections of the Zoning Ordinance.

3. Developing an alternative to current zoning for Rural Residential use.
The current zoning requires fallowing land for three years prior to
division. Division can produce a maximum of four lots (state law)
sufficient to handle septic waste as determined by County Environmental
Health. The current zoning is viewed as onerous to rural property owners.
