Re: more on local businesses
Lois, you always have such wonderful ideas for the community in giving
strokes as well as gaining knowledge.
I have used Cactus Computers for many years ... actually since Monica et.
al. started in a trailer, I think it was (that was a lot of years ago). I've
strayed from them a few times to use other places from time to time but keep
coming back. I've tested their prices against other places (including chain
stores) and they have always come up very comptetitive, sometimes better
with some components. (just got a 19" screen from them for a killer deal).
Monica is laid back and easy to deal with but sticks to her guns and
policies (very professional).
Video Game Headquarters is another place I have become quite impressed with.
They are willing to work with you a little better on the service end than
Cactus. Cactus has a policy of first come first served no matter what the
crisis (and when you run a weekly newspaper the crisis is very real if your
main computer is coughing up junk). I haven't bought hardware from VGH yet
(except some minor things like zip drives and modems, etc.) but they have
been very helpful and saved our buns a few times.
Another local business that impresses me is Printer Pro. He is great to
bring cartridges for my printers, help me put them in. He has fixed my
printers on the spot when they act up. He's great with advice. What else is
there?
Tri-State is, of course, one of favorites too (especially Bear's). The folks
there are very community-minded and oriented... the store is great.
... need to get back to work. This list is absolutely wonderful. I have
found it delightful to get to know all you folks through your postings. We
are running a nice piece on Linda Pall in this week's paper with the seed
coming from this post and the "visionary" poll. We also have photos and
story on the Kenworthy and the ML King breakfast. I had lots of calls on
last week's issue from folks in Moscow. The paper is really coming along and
should only get better as time moves on.
