Frank Robinson keeps coming to mind as a nominee for historical visionary.
He actually had a vision.
He turned it into the 7th largest religious organization in the world. One
could say he anticipated the spirituality movement of the 90's.
He is an early example of the "rule" that if you want to live in Moscow
without working for the university you have to find a creative way to be
self-employed.
He was an early example of a "lone ranger," i.e. live in one place but earn
a living long-distance. Imagine what he could have done with the internet.
He also donated land for Robinson Park and was crucial to the development
of downtown.
