Dear Linda, Peggy and friends of the Phillips farm,
The living farm project Linda referred to was done in the late 1970s
through Ellis Burcaw who was the director of the museums studies program at
the University. There were numerous setbacks to establishing a living
history farm, funding and the University's reluctance to donate land to the
project. However, the students did a lot of research which was organized
into several reports on farm and family life. The University, Special
Collections, has copies as do we (Latah County Historical Society). We also
have photographs and oral history interviews (transcribed) with early
farmers.
I also like the idea of having an area devoted to native plants. A frequent
question here is, What does bunchgrass and camas look like?
