Social Security, legislators, and phone books

Wayne: The page could not be accessed. But speaking about
social security the League of Women Voters, Moscow, will have a
discussion on "social security reform" on Wednesday, March 1st
in the Silver Room of the UI SUB from 12 noon to 1pm. Presenting
the program is Linda Fox, director of Family and Consumer
Sciences Dept. at the UI and very knowledgeable about finances.
I'll let you know if the date changes at all.

Also of interest: Next Wednesday (Dec. 15th) from 12 noon to
1pm, our state legislators will be league's guests. They will discuss
what they hope to accomplish during the next session, and there
will be time for questions and answers from those attending. As
always, public welcome, free, don't have to buy lunch (brown bag).

Last comment: Has everybody noticed in the last few years the
glut of telephone books being delivered to us? We get GTE's, US
West Dex, and Hagadone's. Enough is enough, and even if we
recycle (which we should be doing), that's way too many trees
being used up for this excess. When I worked in CFWR at the UI,
the Hagedone directories were delivered to all offices on campus,
but there were always up to 50 left over. I sent a letter to them
(Hagedone) about it but never received a reply. Any other
suggestions?

I heard an interesting commentary on NPR tonight about Social Security. =
I thought I would forward it on to you. Go to the site and then click =
