With fuel cells the potential of loosing any overhead wires would be
good thing.Im pretty sure that it will be a long time coming as I expect
that we would see a large amount of them just tied to the grid.
It certainly might break the public grip on at least some of the dams. As I
recall only half of the generators on any one dam are being used
anyway.(They keep some mothballed)
The freedom will be a mixed bag.For example some people I know live far from
electricity and so they use standard generators when needed.
Access to the cells would greatly assist them and others in rugged
settings. On the potentially bad side more building(development) pressure may
be added to sensitive habitats.
On natural gas:
I am wondering just how to access the (local) natural gas for auto and
truck use.
Propane is more expensive, it gets trucked from Texas(I believe) and its not
as clean or safe product.
Avista pushes like heck to get people to use natural gas in home
heating.
We collectively drive and walk over the stuff every day and yet if you want
to use it for your car suddenly road blocks emerge. It is
a common reginal product, its cheap and better for the environment. There is
a market for conversion kits, that must suggest something. There are plenty
of smart people around this area to install them. In fact it takes vastly
more brain work to try to diagnose some of the goofy fuel related systems
that are common to gasoline fuel systems these days.
People pay countless dollars in the investment of complex pollution control
devices for their cars just to continue to use gasoline.
Id like to have the option for natural gas...something just doesn't pan
out.
Shahab,I am wondering....What drawbacks do you think are present in fuel
cell powered cars.
As near as I can tell it would merely be a refuelable rather than
rechargable battery for an electric car.
Are you thinking of the hydrogen or.......?
