Unwanted Phone Calls

I'm working with Rep. Randy Hansen to develop another consumer protection
piece of legislation for the next session of the Idaho Legislature.   This
will relate to Victim Identity Theft and help
defrauded victims restore their good credit status more rapidly.

I've been receiving a number of calls relating to unwanted phone
solicitations.   To silence callers
the Idaho Attorney General's Office recommends:

  1.  Do not hang up on junk callers.  Instead ask them to put you on their
"do not call"  list.
       If you don't ask, they legally can call back.

  2.  Never fill out a product warranty card.

  3.  Do not enter sweepstakes or contests.  The phone numbers of entrants
are often sold.

  4.  Do not print your home telephone number on checks.

  5.  Send you phone number to the Direct Marketing Associatoin's Telephone
Preference
        Service by writing the group at:

        P.O. Box 9014,  Farmingdale, N.Y. 11735-9014.  Tell them to add you
to their
        "do not call"   list.
