Phil:
Firstly, I respect your opinion and your service and your father's service.
(My father was in Vietnam also.)
Secondly, you're way off.
Most legitimate gun owners are likely more skilled at handling their firearms
than many or most military and law enforcement personnel. There is no
requirement that a cop be a gun nut. Many LEOs see a firearm as just another
piece of equipment that they MUST carry, and they're about as proficient as
that attitude allows them to be. For the military, Basic doesn't create
professional gun handlers. Neither does yearly qualification.
