PERSI Interium Committee--Constitutent Input

A Legislative Interium Committee is currently meeting to study the PERSI
retirement program
and develop legislation that will be presented in term of
enhancements/options to the 2000
legislative session.   Our committee has held two meetings so far and the
next meeting will
be held in Boise on September 14th.    Two additional meetings will
probably be held in
October and November to finalize legislative proposals.

Many members of the committee wanted to hold public hearings throughout the
state to update
citizens on committee progress and to share some of the ideas for
legislative consideration.
Apparently, there was not enough money in the budget for public hearings.
Senator McLaughlin,
Sen. Stegner, and I serve on the committee.   We strongly feel that
constitutent input is essential
to the democratic process regarding this issue.

We have made arrangements with Idaho Public Television to hold a Town
Meeting on October 9th
from 1:00-3:00 pm at sites in Lewiston, Moscow, and Coeur'd Alene.    This
is on a Saturday
and will allow constitutents to travel to and from during daylite.   No
date is perfect, but we
feel we can update constitutents and solicit input to take to our October
meeting and share this
with the committee.   We will be providing update as more information
becomes available.
