<color><param>0100,0100,0100</param><FontFamily><param>Century Gothic</param> One thing that Mr. Hoffman left out of his well written
letter is that KUOI is not only a student station. Although
most of KUOI's budget comes from the University, some
additional and indispensable funding also comes from local
businesses in the form of underwriting. In addition, KUOI's
mission statement says that the station is for students and
community. KUOI is the only on-air resource for Pacifica
Network News within 300 miles of our area, and up until last
week, KUOI offered a very professional local news show
produced by Leigh Robartes.

Many of the DJs at KUOI are not students, but community
members, and Mr. Robartes is one of them. As mentioned
before, Moscow did have a community (NPR) station at
one time, but the market for both KUOI and KUID didn't
seem to be sufficient. Right now KUOI is closer to being our
community radio station than anything else we have. It is
important to me that moscow have as many alternative
and hopefully independant news sources as we can fit, and
Leigh Robartes' show is one this community doesn't
necessarily need to lose.

And by the way, although most of KUOI's music shows
sound amatuer (because they are), with over 50,000 titles,
KUOI has been estimated to own the largest music library in
the Northwest U.S. Keep listening, and if you have the time,
get involved.
