I just read the article in the paper about the proposed Moscow School
District drug and alcohol policy relative to sports teams. Someone correct
me if I'm wrong, but I thought it was illegal to be in a place where
illegal drugs (i.e., drugs illegal to all, not just minors) are being used,
even if you are not partaking. Is there currently a board policy regarding
whether athletes can participate on teams if they are found to be in
violation of a law?
I also understood the reason this law did not extend to alcohol was so that
minors were not being arrested for being at home when parents are legally
drinking alcohol. How does this proposed policy differentiate between a
"party" where alcohol is present, and a parent having a beer with a minor
present, or a party where an over-21 adult is present?
Is a similar policy in place or being considered for athletes who
participate in assaults on other people?
