1912 Building plans

Thanks to Lisa Garrett for making the plans for 1912 Moscow HS renovation
available. For those who are interested but not able to pick up a copy, here
is some of the information provided. The "Preferred Scheme" of renovation
calls for:

The Science Center will be on the 2nd floor and occupy 5,100 sq. ft.
Science and Art will share 3,072 sq. ft.; 2,321 sq. ft. of that total
is for Exhibit Space on the 2nd floor, 751 for a wood shop in the basement.

Art Spaces occupy 3,068 sq. ft., about 600 sq ft. more than is listed in the
"total needed" column for the various uses, the EXCESS amounts being about 300
sq ft in "painting, drawing, collage studio" (total of that space 812 sq ft),
250 sq. ft. in "ceramics, sculpture, glass studio" (total for those studios
1000 sq. ft), and 150 sq. ft. in "exhibit space" (total 756 sq. ft.)--that
space being in addition to the shared space (with science) noted above.

The Senior Center will be located in the basement and occupy 1000 sq. ft, about
130 sq ft. more than identified as "total needed."

The Parks Department will occupy 2,147 sq. ft., all on the 1st floor. The
"total needed" is listed at 3,200. 500 sq ft. of the "shortage" is provided by
sharing other parts of the building--lounge and meeting/conference space. The
balance of the shortage is in storage space.

The Historical Society classroom will occupy 756 sq ft on the 1st floor.

Common Multi Use spaces--meeting rooms, kitchen, gift shop, storage,
etc.--consume another 5490 sq ft. Common Building areas--hallways, stairs,
elevator, janitor spaces, electrical room, restrooms, etc. take up 10,123 sq
ft.

There is no discussion in the plans or attached to them to identify the
specific uses for each area. For example, "Body Works" is 350 sq ft and "Earth
Watch" 503 sq ft, but we will need another source for information on exactly
what those are. Nevertheless the plans provide some great detail to the dreams
that everyone contributed for use of the building.

I do have some questions raised by the plans:
	1. Why is Parks and Rec on the 1st floor while the kids' space is on 2 and
seniors in the basement. It seems to me that access and use by the latter
would suggest 1st floor consideration, while office staff might better be on 2.
Did parks and rec just have the best lobbiest or does the jigsaw just fit best
this way?

	2. Similarly, the balance of the 1st floor is classroom, art admin, historic
classroom and art display. Again, it would seem that more primary uses should
be on 1. Can someone suggest the reason for this floor plan?

	3. The art and science exhibit space is 2321 sq ft. That seems like a
lot for a display area that looks not to be interactive in any way. What
exactly is planned for that space? Were any alternatives identified for use of
that space--or for a reduced area for art and science exhibits?

	4. The plans indicate that this is "Scheme D" and the Summary of space usage
indicates that Scheme D is the "preferred plan." What are the others, and
where could one review them if so inclined?
