Well, we kind of won the battle, but we definitely lost the war.
Traffic on Jefferson Street, if last night's decision becomes final, will
be lessened from the full impact we could have seen. The following
conditions were attached to approval;
1. Deny access to Jefferson from the new Motor Business zone.
2. Put a Right Turn Only sign at the head of the 600 block, forcing all
southbound Jefferson traffic to use McKinley.
3. Developer must pay to pave McKinley from Jefferson to Highway 95.
That's the battle, and I say 'kind of won' because we (600 block of North
Jefferson) still be serving as an access street to the development without
any guarantee of assistance in the inevitable paving that will occur
eventually.
I say 'lost the war' because it looks like this huge development is going
to happen, with the Big Box store, 200 households, and all the earthmoving
necessary to make it a workable site.
Linda Pall and Pam Palmer were on our side throughout this process,
unfortunately, with Peg Hamlett missing, what might have been a real debate
became pretty lopsided.
