Dear Bill,

The cow should be left alone.  An endangered species, the Side-Hill Gouger's
legs are shorter on one side than on the other.  That's how they survive on
the hills above the river.  They're OK as long as they keep moving in the
same direction.  Occasionally, with tragic consequences, one will turn
around and try to go the other way.  That's what you saw in the river.
Leave the cow alone.
