Announcing Headwaters News

Thursday, February 18 marked the first publication of Headwaters News, an
Internet news service for the Rocky Mountain West
(<www.headwatersnews.org>).  Published by 9:00 am every Monday through
Friday, Headwaters summarizes top stories in the region and then links to
selected articles and opinioin pieces in over 25 on-line newspapers from
the Canadian Rockies to New Mexico and Arizona.  Already, articles from the
Morning Tribune and Daily News have been featured, alongside pieces from
the Salt Lake Tribune, Tucson Daily Star, and Denver Post.

As Headwaters puts it, "We provide a daily snapshot of what is going on in
the Rockies of North America, giving the changing West a tool to understand
itself. In the months to come, we will expand, providing online forums and
discussions. We aim to provide a platform for the exchange of ideas, and to
explore how online journalism can best suit and serve the West."

Headwaters is published by Dick Manning, formerly a reporter from the
Missoulian and edited by Tracy Stone-Manning, most recently of Ecotrust in
Portland.  It is a project of the Center for the Rocky Mountain West at the
University of Montana.  Funding to start the service came from the Hewlett
Foundation.
