Nice idea.  A couple months ago, I spoke to a fellow from Detroit who
remembered his 3rd-grade class spending a day at the one-room schoolhouse
in Henry Ford's Greenfield Village.

Every pupil used slate and chalk, got to sit in the corner with the dunce
cap on, recited the day's lessons, and sat around the pot-bellied stove.  
The pedagogue, a la Icabod Crane, was quite a piece of work, apparently,

He remembered this remarkable day some 20 years after the fact.  Maybe the
grade schools around Detroit still do this field trip.
