I would like to see the tobacco monies used to improve health care to
children, the uninsured, and the underinsured. The immunization initiative
is greatly needed and it would make sense to fund it with the tobacco
monies. Wouldn't it make more sense, though, to work on better prenatal
care for women? If possible, reducing the amount of tobacco, alcohol and
other drugs during pregnancy would not only improve their health, it would
improve the health of their children. At the same time, by engaging these
women in prenatal health care, the health care providers could build a case
for immunization of children.
