Bizarreness of it all, Re: Attack on Iraq

Thursday morning, 12-17-98

From: MoscowSam@moscow.com

This morning before leaving for work, I checked the "situation" on CNN.

The CNN reporter was live from Baghdad with a "nightscope" focused on the city
as renewed attacks were anticipated from the US/UK/UN.

Next, the sub-window on my TV screen switches to a DC reporter ruminating over
the relationship between the strike on Iraq and the proceedings to impeach
President Clinton.

Can this be real? Is this surrealistic or what!!!

Can you imagine the U.S. sustaining air strikes from other forces, on
Washington, DC, while the (take your choice) Chinese, Russian, Cuban, etc., etc.
media are reporting to the world, live, from Washington, as a majority in their
legislative body (where they have one) moves to depose their "leader".

And they would have initiated their strike on the U.S. before Christmas, of
course, because waiting for a Christmas launch would be so immoral to inflame
their allies.

Well, I better move back to sanity and construct a coherent exam for my students
.....

Subject: Attack on Iraq

IMHO and in regards to the impeachment process and the bombing of Iraq
please don't assume that the timing of the attack was in correlation to the
vote in the Congress.

The inspectors were pulled out on Monday because of Iraq's lack of
cooperation. We already had permission from the Security Council this
Fall to bomb for non-cooperation or compliance. I believe we were at that
point hours from beginning bombing when this last round of inspectors was
allowed in. Sadam was told what would happen, he knew we would bomb and so
did the Security Council.

The level of conspiracy implied in the timing of the Articles of Impeachment
vote and the timing bombing would then also have to include the British
Prime Minister because his statement of a joint operation preceded Clinton's
by minutes.

Imagine the phone call :

BLAIR's ASST.: The Prime Minister will Speak with you now Mr.. President
CLINTON: Hello, Tony..? .. Yeah the Congress is about to vote on that
impeachment thing...Let's start the bombing now, and stall the vote a few
days... Then maybe they will run outta time in the 104th Congress...I'll
get five more Democrats votes in the 105th, and maybe the people will forget
about it if we start a war."
BLAIR: That will be fine Bill, I'll get my speech writers working on a
speech and we'll go in an hour... How's that sound?
CLINTON: Thanks Tony, I owe you one.

As jaded as I am I really can't believe these two incidents are related.
Just to weigh in on impeachment. I am against impeachment. Not because
Clinton doesn't deserve it; but because President Gore scares me more than
what we have now....
