If you are basing this strictly on ownership, this means that an employer
can at will search through an employee's desk, office, locker, etc. In
deed, many people think "Why not? Why should I have anything in my desk
that I wouldn't want my employer to see?" Other people would feel less
comfortable with such an arrangement. I might keep any legitimate
medication, reading material, personal effects, etc., that might prejudice
my boss against me (for example, I could have the official newspaper of the
Democratic Party, and my boss is a staunch Republican, or vice versa).
I don't really know what the defining legal precidents are concerning the
above, although, as I've pointed out earlier, some animals are more equal
than others, and juveniles (e.g. in school) don't enjoy the full extent of
rights and protections that adults do.
