dogs and enforcement
In this community we have "trampled" on the "rights" of a whole class on
individuals when it comes to the consumption of alcohol. That class is
"minors". It is perfectly legal for adults to consume alcohol, but it is
illegal for minors to possess or consume alcohol.
However, while the law is clear, many individuals, both adult and
minor, ignore it. There are teen parties every weekend in this community
where alcohol (and other things) is readily available to "minors". In many
cases these parties are known and supported by "adults". Enforcement of
the law is weak.
Consider the law against drinking and driving and the number of "road
hunters" whose idea of fun on a Sunday afternoon is to drive the back roads
of Latah and drink beer while "hunting" for deer.
If we, as a community, truly wish to have enforcement of the laws,
then we must recognize the impact on our personal freedoms such enforcement
will have. If we, as a community, do not want to have true enforcement of
the law, then the law should be repealed.
