Curbside Recycling

Curbside recycling sounds like a great thing overall to me. I lived in
Seattle through their introduction of such a program and 8 years of use of
it. It is a highly successful and very useful program there, and I
believe it could be the same here.

I'm concerned (as others have mentioned) about the complexity of the
proposed program here. A plan to have different types of items put out
for recycling on alternate weeks seems likely to lead to loads of
confusion and loads of mixed items. ("Do we put the glass out this week
or the cans?!") Seattle worked with 3 categories of items, recycled every
week. Perhaps 3-5 categories of the major types of items could be done
every week and the others we could still do individually? What types of
items are most important for this town to recycle in terms of
environmental, volume, and value considerations? What has worked for
other towns of comparable size?
