Re: Effective Citizens
A few additional characteristics of "effective citizen" might be --
- willingness to learn, share and practice participatory skills in
informal and formal community orgs.
- knowing the powers of local govt. and how they can best operate for
the general welfare (zoning, public safety,
education, health, infrastructure maintenance, public finance)
- standing for community goals and a wholesome quality of life for
children, families and seniors
- appreciating and promoting human, cultural and natural diversity as
the normal fabric of environment and
community ("e pluribus unum")
- striving to practice unconditionally the "golden rule" in human
relations
... and so, advocating progressive community development for all
citizens, including our student "guests" who can
gain from closer associations with city and county folks
Maybe we could have a "brainstorming" session some time,
orchestrated by a professional person. Hoping this is helpful. W. Ken
