vision2020
career move
2020 Subscribers,
It has been my pleasure...no, my honor...to serve on
the steering committee of Moscow Vision 2020 since
its birth in 1993. The accomplishments of this loose
organization are many, but the greatest (in my eyes)
is the listserve forum itself.
I am grateful, therefore, that I can continue to be a
subscriber, despite the fact that I have recently accepted
a tenure track position as a sociology instructor at Walla
Walla Community College at its main campus. This is a
sudden, but wonderful opportunity for me to do what I love
most. The drawback is the dual career, two household,
commuter life--my partner, family, and home will remain
in Moscow. The new job begins October 5.
Although this will leave a vacancy on the steering committee,
perhaps it will draw the "organization(?)" together to identify
an appropriate replacement. There are no finer citizens in
Moscow to work with than Bill London and Priscilla Salant
who serve with me on the steering committee.
I feel fortunate to have assisted with the Moscow Community
Retreat and the production of its report. Those events are
among a stream of community-building activities that make
this town, county, and region, special.
I will join others, like Lou Sternberg and Kenton Bird, who will
maintain from afar a virtual sense of place/community via this unique
listserve.
I have enjoyed immensely getting to know all of you, even if
I have no idea what you look like.
Keep this thriving. While the political/personal antics of the
nation appear to be crumbling, this forum offers me faith that
the power of decentralized, citizen-based democracy is alive
and well.
With fondness,
Susan Palmer
