community retreat celebration
We're going to need some help in pulling off this party.....
To celebrate our successful community retreat, the 2020 steering
committee is planning a party. We want to release the retreat report in
style, and in a way that people enjoy and remember. We also want to
increase the involvement of local residents, both those who attended the
retreat and those who now wish they had been there. And of course, we
want to make this report a living document, one that helps local
agencies, organizations, and governments to plan and build our
collective future.
We--meaning the 2020 steering committee with the wonderful addition of
Linda Pall who first talked party plans--have a few general thoughts
about this party. This is the broad outline of what we would like to
see:
The report of the retreat committees and their plans for the future will
be available in both electronic form (at various websites) and in
printed format. We want to print enough copies for everyone to take at
the party for themselves, plus 3 extra-large versions which we will have
at the party for everyone to sign. Like the Declaration of Independence
itself, those of us who were at the retreat can sign on the big
reports--and those who weren't at the retreat, but want to sign on in
support can also do so. After the party, the big copies will be given
to the historical society, the library and the city to keep/display.
Ten tables (with chairs) will be set up. The tables will be covered
with white paper. Each table will correspond to one of the topic
sessions at the retreat. Everyone will be asked to go to any or all of
the tables and draw/write what they want that is relevant to the topic
of that session. Potentially, that written or drawn material could be
published.
We will have music playing, and cake and punch to eat. We will have a
short presentation during the event. We suggest scheduling the party as
a continuing drop-in session on a weekday from 4:30pm to 7pm, so people
can come to get their reports, write on the topics of interest, grab a
bite and leave without being at the presentation.
Does any of this sound good to you?
