pool design

Visionaries:

I am not on any of the pool committees, but I did sit in on the interviews
with the five finalists for the design team. The firm that has been
recommended by the designer selection committee is very impressive and has a
lot of ideas to share based on their extensive experience with this type of
pool. They indicated in the interview their interest to hear more from the
community.

The recommended firm designed a pool in East Lansing, Michigan which is
uncovered during the summer, but has an air-supported bubble covering it in
the winter. It is apparently a highly successful design, with good air
quality because it was designed from the start to have this bubble. The
additional cost of the bubble is about $500,000--much less than an enclosed
pool.

We had some fairly lively discussions on this listserv about the pool
proposal, and I think the margin of victory on the pool levy indicated
widespread enthusiasm for having a pool. I encourage you to attend the open
house Thursday, June 25 from 5 to 6:30 at council chambers to discuss the
pool design with the design firm and the newly appointed pool design committee.
