A lot of good thinking going on here.  How about archives that are made
public for, say, a fortnight at a time, so that newcomers or vacationers
from the list can catch up with the current flow of ideas, but then
having someone store the whole deleted archives privately, for reference
according to necessity?  Regarding "censorship", this is, after all, a
well-defined forum.  Pollution is not that hard to recognise, and we
don't owe anybody the right to pollute the free-flow of constructive
ideas with slander, obscenity, or  other venom.  Moderate, edit,
simplify.
