March 30 Deadline: The countdown is on for the public to comment on the
government's proposed road building moratorium on our national forests.
The Student Environmental Action Coalition (SEAC-Idaho) is circulating a
petition that reads:
PETITION
to the United States Legislation and Forest Service
ROADS ON OUR NATIONAL PUBLIC LANDS
We support a complete 18-month road building moratorium on all of our
national public forests. We insist that during this moratorium, the U.S.
Forest Service establish a legally binding and enforceable road policy
based on biologically sound science. We call for immediate remediation of
our public forests and ask that you legislate and manage our forests with
only their sound ecological and biological health as priority over and
above any and all special interest. We have nothing to gain financially by
signing this petition. We seek these initiatives for the sole welfare and
benefit of our public lands, now and in the future.
Any Visionaries wanting to sign can find petitions in Moscow at Gambino's
and The Food Co-op. SEAC will be petitioning during the parade at Mardi
Gras and from now until the March 30th deadline throughout Idaho. We will
also have petitions available at the Non-Profit Weekend in the Palouse
Empire Mall. There will be a Forest Service public meeting regarding this
proposed moratorium in C'dA on March 19, 1-7 PM, Idaho Panhandle National
Forests, 3815 Schreiber Way, Coeur d'Alene for anyone interested in
attending.
All petitions will be delivered to the Forest Service, with
copies of each going to Sen. Larry Craig and Rep. Helen Chenoweth.
