Thanks for your Feb. 18 editorial on Moscow's proposed swimming pool. I
agree that an outdoor facility makes little sense, at least on the face of
it. I attended the pool committee's drop in forums and read everything I
could about their deliberations. Nevertheless, I was blindsided by the
unanimous recommendation for an outdoor facility.
I urge the Moscow City Council to sponsor a public workshop to help
citizens (and potential bond voters) learn from the committee's research
and analysis. All of us, not just the Council, should better understand
the costs and benefits of alternative pool proposals. I'd wager that an
open, informative process now would go a long ways towards achieving a
positive election outcome in May. What have we to lose by public input and
education on this important community decision?
