Bert makes several valid points. Times have changed. However, there were
still some bad apples in school during my years, and probably during
Bert's years as well. The difference was the support underpinning the
school system, by the administrators and the community. I remember
observing teachers enforcing a credible level of behavior, because the
teachers knew they were expected to maintain order. They wouldn't put up
with a fraction of the nonsense I've witnessed in Moscow. Kids knew that.

Don't forget the naive parent who proclaims, "My child would never do
that!"

This is the central problem facing the school system which hopes to
maintain discipline. Schools seem terrified of lawsuits. Well, maybe
there were some horrendous judgments in the 1970s, but we cannot run
scared and continue to let the schools deteriorate. It's time for a
stand. I would venture more parents are ready to support the schools now,
since many current parents witnessed the beginnings of today's laxness
when they were in school.

Does Moscow have the intestinal fortitude to do it?

I'm hearing from several persons who feel the MJHS problem has been way
out of control. Or has it changed with the new administration over the
past couple years?
