pool talks

I have been pleased to learn that

1. the pool committee is soliciting comments by taking their display to many
venues, not just waiting for people to come to them. Jeanne Leffingwell
brought the display to the swim meet at UI this past Saturday and spent a
good part of the day discussing options with people.

2. two public forums have been arranged on Monday, FEb. 9--one at noon and
one from 5-7 p.m. Locations to be announced. This is a chance not only to
"vote," but to let others know the reasons behind your opinions.

I've also had another concern addressed. I was concerned that people's
opinions were being solicited without adequate financial data. What would
happen if the "votes" came out in favor of, e.g. Option A and Option C, but
that when the finance committee came back with information about not only
the cost to construct, but the cost to operate and maintain, Options A and C
were prohibitively costly? Would we then proceed to get voter approval (or
other financing) for an option that people wanted but that we couldn't
afford? Would we ignore what people want and go for the most affordable?
Marshall Comstock informed me that all this information will culminate in a
workshop in which members of both committees and the city council would
hammer out a resolution. The public is welcome at this workshop.

Thanks to all those who responded to me on this matter.
