Pool news story

I believe that any alternative financing of a pool facility was rejected by
the pool committee right at first. Thus was done, in my opinion, to insure
that only a basic outdoor facility was built. This committee, again in my
opinion. never had any notion of doing anything but replacing Ghormley
pool. This opinion of mine is reinforced by the unfortunate comments of
Larry Hodge in the 12/26 news story.

What is not mentioned is the true cost of a pool facility. For example,
since a site has not been selected yet, there is the cost of bringing
utilities to what ever site is picked. There is no dicussion of the
ongoing costs for maintainence and use. There is no discussion of who is
to pay ongoing support of any facility.

If we build a basic outdoor facility, which I will not vote for, then such
a facility is open for at best about 60 days per year. That is a cost per
day of 2.5 million/60 days or $41,666/day. If we build the indoor facility
which would be open for 350 days per year at 7.5 million then we have a
cost of $21,430/day. We also have many community organizations willing to
pay to use the faicility, or a possible revenue neutral yearly maintainence
cost.

Many of these ideas were pointed out to the committee, but rejected by
Larry and company.
