1) (Space) A 50 meter competition tank
2) (Toys) Attractions such as slides, boards, etc to get people (and their
wallets) to the pool, with a shallow, zero-entry side for access.
3) (Sunlight) A cover that allows sunlight and air to come into the area,
with sides and roof that allow for it to be outdoors in the summer.
Now a few comments:
With regards to temperature, as a lap swimmer, I like my pool water on the
cool side of things, but many recreational swimmers prefer warmer water, so
I think Lois has raised an important point about engineering/design etc.
The Moses Lake Pool has a shallow area/slide area to the side of the
competition tank, but it is part of the same pool. That pool also has an
edge that is at water level (waves splash onto a plastic grate that
surrounds the entire pool, thereby preventing waves from being bounced back
into the pool).
I think we need some land around this pool that would be *inside* the
fenced pool area, so that people could be "at the pool" without being "in
the pool". I would also like to see some land outside of the fenced area
where parking (and possibly swim meet camping) could take place.
Thanks for soliciting comments. I appreciate the time and energy put into
this effort by committee members. Today, I talked with a few people at the
UI pool (during lap swim) who did not know that the committee had a
"Question of the Week". I suggest that several signs be posted around the
locker rooms and on the walls in the pool with the various questions.
Perhaps a few of the gazillion parents watching swim lessons (or swim team)
could answer questions while waiting for their kids.
