I sent an earlier reply to the tread, but I think I sent it to the
wrong address.
Thanks for the pointed criticism. I will use it when we sit down and
do a post-election review.
Part of the problem is our four-fold mission: Moscow, Pullman, rural
Latah and rural Whitman counties. Given our resources, we have to
choose where to spend our time. We tried to cover the Moscow elections
early, basically at the filing deadline, because the election
essentially ended there.
This election we put more resources into Washington elections because
there was a lot more action there; the weekend edition before the
election reflects that.
Bill London's suggestion of profiles is worth noting. We do that for
other offices, usually at the state and federal level. We can try that
next time, but frankly it will probably be superficial given the
number of city council candiates in our readership area. Having said
that, it's worth a shot.
