I'm about to embark on a month long experience with the "Walk A Mile" program.
This program pairs a legislator with a low income constituent for four weeks.
Activities include going grocery shopping, visits to the welfare office,
training program visitations, and living four weeks on a food stamp budget.
The program is sponsored by the El-Ada Community Action Agency and the Idaho
Women's Network. The program begins on Nov. 17. It is noteworthy that 31 of
Idaho's 100 legislators have signed up for the program. This will give us an
opportunity to see how much of the welfare reform legislation that we passed
is affecting recepients.
