Dear Chief Weaver,
Thank you for sending the MPD press release of June 19 to the Vision 2020
e-mail list. However, after reading it, I'm having difficulty understanding
exactly what DID happen on May 14, 1997.
Can you provide any additional details of "the facts gathered in the Moscow
Police Department investigation" and how they differed from "circumstances
reported in the Moscow/Pullman Daily News and discussion on the Internet"?
Was there in fact a confrontation in the crosswalk on Taylor Street and/or
on the Deakin Avenue Extension? If so, were any laws broken? Will there
be any changes in the department's procedures for investigating complaints
of crosswalk violations and/or incidents of this type? And what advice
would you give to pedestrians who might find themselves in a similar
situation in the future?
I don't mean to second-guess the department's investigation; I'm just
curious about its conclusions and what we as a community might learn from them.
Thank you for your attention to these questions.
