While the idea of a town forum to discuss these questions is good, I
don't feel I have enough background information to make a decision. For
example. In the case of mutual aggression, who makes the decision not to
charge one or both parties? Is the use of a weapon part of the
consideration? Can an individual who disagrees with the initial diagnosis
by the onsite officer have any legal recourse to pursue other charges? Are
there any standards that the responding officer can refer to before
concluding that it is mutual aggression?
In the case of alcohol and the "senior kegger", the questions become
even more ethereal. Individual family preferences dictate the response to
minors consuming alcohol. A more permissive family might see nothing
wrong with a minor attending a senior kegger, while other parents want all
the minors involved hung by thier toes. There is little we can do on the
state or national level other thatn encourage more stricter laws. (or less)
We can locally decide what we want our local police force and courts to
do. My personnal preference is to charge the supplier with contributing.
I feel that would do more to dry up the great many teen alcohol and drug
parties that occur on almost every weekend in this community.
